Last week I mentioned how I ended up in the ER Hospital room having tests run and on the brink of emergency surgery.
But, the doctors had no idea what was wrong.
Here’s the entire ER Hospital fiasco.
I was having a nice dinner with family and friends at a local steak house. During the dinner I started to feel sick to my stomach and thought it wasn’t a big deal.
So, I kept eating.
The sick feeling in my stomach turned into serious burning sharp pains on the left side of my stomach. I couldn’t get out of the restuarant fast enough, I got to my car and reclined the seat and laid there for a few minutes hoping the pain went away.
I figured I had really bad gas or indigestion. NOPE!
It got worse, I have a pretty high pain threshold but this pain was killer. I couldn’t walk upright, hunched over holding my stomach my family rushed me to the hospital.
Here I am hooked up to IV, in a hospital gown with my rear end out and nurses poking me drawing blood. They saw how much pain I was in and gave me a heavy dose of pain meds.
It took a while for it to kick in…They started to rules out kidney stones, apendicitis but figured it was my gallbladder failing and they were about to go in and have it removed.
Hold on a sec…No one is cutting me open.
Finally the pain meds kicked in and the pain just started to go away.
They continued to run tests and draw more blood, since they saw the pain med worked and I wasn’t about to let them cut me open, I was able to go home. My abs were sore for days after the pain, it felt as if I was doing hundreds of teasers and hours of planks with how sore they were.
But then the after math of tests and tests were done to find the problem, I had dye injected into my kidneys, and random weird tests done. But doctors couldn’t find anything wrong, all organs were functioning properly.
Thought I was in the clear but then it happened again, Part II…
Exactly the same situation of events unfolded, this time worse. I went to dinner, had red meat and ended right back in the ER that night. The pain meds which worked last time didn’t help, they had to increase the dose and add another pain med to my IV.
Yet again, doctors couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. Once the heavy dose of pain meds kicked in and more blood taken I was sent home.
Really I thought what in the heck is happening here. So I figured it had to do with something I was eating, I became more aware of what foods I was eating and remembered what I had for dinner that last two times I was in the ER.
From one day to the next I stopped eating all red meat, processed foods and all fried foods.
Amazing what happened after, I didn’t get the sharp shooting pain in my side anymore, although it would still come and go when I ate chicken and turkey.
So again, I made the decision and stopped eating chicken and turkey.
It was unbelievable, its been 9 years now without any meats and clean eating. From that day back years ago till today I no longer have pain in my stomach. My body is not equipped to process meats and alot of other foods.
Where does that leave me? A super sensitive stomach, foods limitations and awareness.
Of course I can try to eat meats again but I’d rather stay out of the ER.
Fish, eggs, veggies, and lots of smoothies work for me and keep me fueled.
When I try new foods or supplements my body will reject it right away if it’s not good. Being aware of what we feed our body is crucial to living a healthy.
After sitting with many of my Pilates clients for a thorough 1-on-1, the common themes was foods and feeling gassy, bloated and just not good. I gave them a few tips to keep in mind when adjusting their eating habits.
1. Write down what you eat ever day and keep a food journal.
2. If you eat bread (for example) and you feel bloated and not good, remove it from your diet the rest of the week and be aware of how you feel.
3. Reintroduce the bread the following week and if you feel bloated and not good, that’s your body telling you it doesn’t like it, so stop eating it.
4. For the ladies, make sure to consume protein. We don’t consume enough throughout the day and we grab fruit right away because we think it’s the better choice. Of course it is if the choice is fruit over potato chips. Don’t be afraid of eating protein.
5. Whip up a protein shake or smoothie in the morning and have that before your first sip of coffee.
6. Vitamins, make sure you are consuming a daily mutli-vitamin and my favorite is Vitamin B-Complex. Life gets stressful and energy levels can dip, Vitamin B helps.
These are just a few tips of what I’ve done that have worked for me and my clients.
One of my favorites are smoothies, I can pack them with all the goodness my body needs.
Here is one of my favorites:
Banana Vanilla protein Shake
*Crushed ice
*1 Scoop Bio Trust Low Carb Protein Powder
*1/2 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
*Half a bannana
*1 tablespoon chopped pineapple pieces
*1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
*1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
I use my magic bullet to blend everything up, you can add more almond milk if you don’t like it chunky.
I’ve been experimenting with the Low Carb protein with other fruits and greens, Jonah is loving the recipes and asks for his protein smoothie every day.
By the way, if you are looking for a good Low Carb protein this is my new favorite >>> Bio Trust Low Carb
The best thing about this protein is it doesn’t upset my stomach and I’m not in the ER, so that’s a huge plus =)
