It’s official summer has just begun. My son just finished third grade and has the next 3 months off for summer break. Now with kids out of school it becomes a challenge to sticking with your daily healthy eating and exercise routine.
I always get asked, “Come on mom lets go get frozen yogurt!” and on a hot summer day out here in Chino Hills it can get way up to 115 degrees so how can I possibly resist. But, it’s not just the frozen yogurt but the snacking throughout the day.
My son is constantly snacking which I encourage so I make sure I have healthy snacks for him available when hes running in and out playing in the pool.
Besides the additional snacking my son will be doing because he will be burning more energy than usual it’s super important to have nutritional snacks in your kitchen at all times. We get busy with summer activities and without proper planning it’s a spiral of bad eating choices.
I put together this quick list of summer snacks to have available with you as you drive around from event to event this summer:
* Handful of raw almonds (usually 1 oz) with 1 green apple
* 1 Scoop Protein Powder in shaker cup – this is the best thing to carry with you, you can add water if you are on the road.
or if you are at home
*1 Scoop Protein Powder – with unsweetened Vanilla almond milk, handful of frozen blueberries, ice cubes – I use a magic bullet to blend it up, it makes for the Perfect size.
(Now there are tons and tons of protein powders out there, but my favorite is MRM Protein in Dutch Chocolate.)
*1 Cup lowfat cottage cheese – mix flax seed oil
*Peel and Chop up one Cucumber, Peel and Chop Up one Jicama, mix together adding a little lemon and spicy chilli powder (caynenne chili powder great for kick starting your metabolism)
*1 Rasin Ezequiel Bread toasted with almond butter
*Hummus with celery or carrot sticks
Now these are just a few of my favorite snacks for the summer, I like to keep it light and easy to carry and almost zero prep time.
Although I do eat some fruit I suggest portion control with it because of the sugar content. By try this favorite frozen dessert!
Get One bag of seedless red grapes, wash them really good and put them in a bowl in the freezer. It’s healthy and a great snack when it’s super hot!
Enjoy!
