Pain in the neck can originate from a variety of things.
Stress, sitting in front of a computer all day long, driving, exercise, bad posture and the list goes on.
I spent some time chatting with a few of our Pilates gals and I mentioned a few things that would help alleviate stiffness and tightness in the neck. And help relieve some stress at the same time.
So, I wanted to share it with everyone and give a few more details about it.
Lavender!
In case you have or haven’t used it or know about it…Lavender is a herbal product that treats rheumatoid arthritis pain, depression, anxiety, ear pain, low back pain, neck pain and the list goes on.
Many people find lavender aromatherapy to be relaxing and has been reported to have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects.
Traditionally used for relaxation.
There are a variety of methods you can use Lavender. In addition to my daily regimens to keep my body moving after injuries and a bad shoulder and neck pain from a car accident….Below are a few I’ve personally used and wanted to share along with you…
Lavender oil…
1. Massage a small amount on and around the neck area right after a warm shower before you go to bed. This will also help in relaxing the body and works to help you fall asleep.
I don’t sleep much, so this helps me quite a bit.
2. When you have a massage ask for a aromatherapy massage using Lavender oil. Your muscles will love it and you’ll be super relaxed.
And, if you have a special someone ask them to help you with it =)
Lavender Neck Pillow
***This is my favorite and Jonah likes this too…was given to me as a gift, I’ve used it so much that I need to get a new one. It’s a Earth Therapeutic neck pillow. Filled with lavender and chamomile.
Put in the microwave to warm it up, not hot but just warm enough and place it on your shoulders. Feels so good and helps release tension around the neck.
After a warm shower I heat up the neck pillow and put around my neck, I wish I could say I sit and relax but I get right back on my lap top.
But…for you sit back and relax with the pillow around your neck.
